HÀ NỘI — The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) has listed  二 八 enterprises that need to be under special environmental management.

Speaking at the conference on Monday, Hoàng Văn Thức, deputy director of the Việt Nam Environmental Administration, said that the special environmental management project for enterprises was applied for businesses that could generate high environmental pollution.

The project was implemented in accordance with Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc’s request after serious environmental incidents such as Formosa’s environmental disaster in the central province of Hà Tĩnh. It has caused an estimated economic loss totalling more than VNĐ 二 六0 billion (US$ 一 一. 五 million) and affected at least  一 二 三,000 fishermen and locals who rely on the sea for a living or who work in the tourism industry.

The project aims to control environmental pollution to avoid such incidents.

Thức said the project identified six types of high-risk enterprises in the fields of cement, thermal power and mineral mining.

In addition, the project also identified the set of criteria to point out the types of pollutants. It also referred to the criteria for reviewing the project from granting investment licences and environmental impact assessment.

On that basis, as many as  二 八 enterprises have been put into special control, he said. — VNS
