52 Weeks of Organizing – Week 1 Holiday Decorations

Welcome to the 52 Weeks of Organizing Challenge!  This is Week 1 in the series!  Please note that these weeks are not built on one another and you can start at any time!  It’s never too early or too late to begin organizing!  Please note that this organizing challenge is meant to work in harmony with the Stay Moore Organized system and weeks to get your household cleaning chores done will be built into the challenge!

This week it is time to get those holiday decorations down and organized!  This post contains affiliate links to amazon listings!

I like to use some of the red and green storage tubs for my decorations as they are easy to recognize as Christmas decorations in the attic.  You may be able to find a good deal on them right now locally, or check out amazon and have them delivered to your doorstep!  I really like these containers for easy ornament storage:

The built in dividers make quick work of putting things away, and also easy to remove when you are putting up decorations.

When putting away decorations go ahead and discard any that are broken.

Also, note any decorations that you did not use this year, and make decisions on why you are keeping decorations that are no longer used.  If you are saving them for some reason, but don’t plan on using them, consider storing them separately with a note on top for why they are being saved.  Donate decorations that you don’t like or are no longer using that are still in good shape.

Consider an organizer like this for your wrapping paper, gift bags, bows etc.  I store my Christmas wrapping separately from my other wrappings so it doesn’t take up space the other months of the year.  You could also get an organizer like this for wrappings used for birthday, anniversary, baby showers, weddings, and other occasions that come up throughout the year.

For larger and bulkier items I use storage tubs like this.  They do a good job of keeping the dust off of items, and protecting items that don’t need individual storage compartments.  If you don’t get storage bins that are see through, it is a good idea to label the container with the contents of what is inside.

By taking some of these extra steps now, you can make decorating for Christmas next year a little less painful and more organized!

Next week we will be working on organizing your entry way and creating a landing/launching pad!

If you haven’t already gone through the steps of the Stay Moore Organized system, you can do that here.

Until next week!  Happy Organizing!
