52 Weeks of Organizing – Week 9 – Home Office Drawers and Cabinets!

We are back and finishing up the home office areas this week!  It’s time to clean out and declutter the home office drawers and cabinets!  So … if you have 50,000 pens and pencils in your house, now is the time to deal with them!

Welcome to the 52 Weeks of Organizing Challenge!  This is Week 9 in the series!  Please note that these weeks are not built on one another and you can start at any time!  It’s never too early or too late to begin organizing!

For me, this week moves me to a couple different areas of my home.  I have a home office, but we also have a common computer/desk area for the house, so I’ll be tackling both.  Hopefully you only have one of these areas, but nonetheless, it is time to gather up all the pens!

I’m not sure why, but it seems that most people I know, including myself … has a huge stash of writing implements … I mean, hundreds … we have pens in purses, kitchen drawers, on nightstands, tucked in desk drawers, book bags, left out on counters, a few in the car … I probably even have a pen in my makeup bag.  And, do you know … that I don’t even like most of these pens … and some of the pencils are so small that I don’t even know how my son writes with them!  I even bought a new pack of pens last week, a pack of the pens that I like.  So, it is time to get rid of the pens.

Take the extra to a community center or school … I am making up a bin of pens and note pads to take to Boy Scouts … cause the boys never have a pen to take notes.  Does this sound familiar to you?  Are you worried that you are never going to have a pen to write down a note or important number?  … Most likely you have a phone … and expensive phone … that has capability of keeping notes, and storing thousands of phone numbers.

Did you just laugh?  Cause I laughed!  I laughed because I may be single handedly keeping the pen companies in business!

Next, it is time to clear out the desk drawers … I’m not sure what else is in your desk drawers, but mine closely rival the junk drawer … and now is the time to really consider how much of this stuff is necessary in the world we live in today.

It’s time to evaluate how much paper you keep, and try to switch over to digital as much as possible.  If you are still receiving paper statements, perhaps now is the time to request to be switched to digital statements.
