52 Weeks of Organizing – Week 17 – Fridge and Freezer .. and Construction!

Good Morning Friends!  This week we are still working in the kitchen and will focus on cleaning out and organizing the refrigerator and freezer!  It’s a good idea to have these things on your monthly to do list, and  taking time to organize them should happen more often than once!

Welcome to the 52 Weeks of Organizing Challenge!  This is Week 17 in the series!  Please note that these weeks are not built on one another and you can start at any time!  It’s never too early or too late to begin organizing!

Our fridge and freezer are definitely the workhorses in my kitchen, with 3 boys, hubby and I we never seem to have enough space in either one.  I would love to have an extra fridge or freezer, but at this time we don’t have a space where the power to that space is reliable, and this should be your number one consideration when having a second fridge or freezer.

So, with limited fridge or freezer space, I need to have things pretty well organized.  I don’t keep things like canned drinks or water in the fridge, as I don’t have the extra space.  I am also careful about having too many opened sauces, dressings, and condiment items … so, if you purchase a new barbeque sauce, and your family isn’t a fan … go ahead and toss it before it becomes mystery date food!

Also, take note of food items that may be taking up space in your fridge, but don’t really need to … this is a good list, but take note that eggs that are purchased refrigerated or currently refrigerated need to stay refrigerated https://www.rodalewellness.com/food/50-foods-you-may-not-need-to-refrigerate

In the freezer, make sure to label and date!  You also want to make sure that frozen meats are a regular part of your meal planning so that you are using them before they become freezer burned or loose the quality they had when purchased.

So, this week, take things out of the fridge and freezer, wipe down and clean the inside, and take inventory of what you have in there!  If you have a second fridge or freezer, you need to tackle those also!

On a side note … do you remember when I said a couple weeks ago that I wished that I was telling you about getting a bigger pantry?  Well, we are in full on construction zone here … tearing apart the bathroom, tearing down walls, removing unused soaker tub, and preparing to relocate the washer/dryer and master sink.  … So, Hopefully very soon, I’ll be enjoying that bigger pantry!  … and not being woken up by my husband brushing his teeth at 4:30am since the master sink is currently inside the footprint of our bedroom … Seriously, what builder thought that was a good idea??!!  Here are some pictures of the current renovation … the rest of the house is crazy town!
